SCIENCE

We teach Science in English

The course Science is geared towards students who want to go beyond traditional public school curriculum and focuses on employing Scientific Method and combination of theoretical, experimental and inquiry-based approaches to learning.

During each class students will utilize Scientific Method as a tool to study world around them. They will learn how to develop a hypothesis, test their theory, perform experiments, and make conclusions. One of the many goals of this course is to help students to become proficient in using Metric System and basic lab equipment. Students also will learn how to present the results of their experiments and evaluate their peers’ work.

Grades  1-2

The course aims to stimulate young minds, cultivate their interest, and spark their curiosity in finding out about the world around them. Students will investigate properties of light and sound. They will understand that light and sound are forms of energy, will “see” sound and “feel” light, will make strings talk and colors disappear, will learn why skies are blue and traffic lights are red, and so much more, all while learning the basics of Scientific Method - how to develop a hypothesis, test their theory, perform experiments, and make a conclusion.

Grades  3-4

The course focuses on developing strong understanding of Scientific Method. Students will learn how to record the data and understand how different variables can affect the results of their experiments. Students will learn what electricity is and how we can use it to make our life easier (and, sometimes, more funJ). Students will build numerous circuits (out of very unusual things) and electrify a house, will learn how batteries work and why it’s imprudent to dance in the thunderstorm, will launch a helicopter and build electromagnet, and so much more!

Grades 4-5

The course focuses on developing strong understanding of Scientific Method. Students will learn how to record the data and understand how different variables can affect the results of their experiments. Students will practice presenting results of their experiments and evaluating their peers’ work. Students will continue to build and test numerous simple machines, study Newton’s laws, and solve problems. Then students will learn about and experiment with different types of potential and kinetic energy, find out where energy comes from, and how it can be stored and used.

Chemistry Class

We also offer a course " Chemical Magic" for Ages 10-11

The course covers Chemical Reactions & Properties of Matter

This unit helps students to develop the concepts of “substance” and “chemical reaction”. Students see that chemical reactions enable us to make new materials by transforming the ones we have. The results of these reactions are interesting and sometimes profoundly useful. Students will be “building” molecules, experiment with different types of chemical reactions, work as forensic chemists, and develop “new” materials.
